Happy Feast Day
Pope Saint Pius X
1835-1914
Feast day: August 21 (New), September 3 (Trad)
Patronage: First Communicants
Pope St. Pius X, born Giuseppe Melchiorre Sarto, was the 257th pope of the Catholic Church, serving from 1903 to 1914. He was the first pope since Pope Pius V to be canonized. Pope Pius X is perhaps best remembered for his encouragement of the frequent reception of Holy Communion, especially for children. The second of 10 children in a poor Italian family, Joseph Sarto became Pius X at 68, one of the 20th century's greatest popes.
"Holy Communion is the shortest and fastest way to Heaven." – Pope Saint Pius X
