The name “server” clearly points out what you do at Mass: serve God and His people by assisting the priest and the fellow worshippers to praise God as well as they can. By helping the priest and people carry out special actions at Mass, you are really serving God. As a server, you should respond to the prayers and dialogue of the priest and join in the hymns and sung responses. In this way, you are the mirrors and models for the gathered assembly. There is a training session. Children, 3rd grade and older, and adults may assist as altar servers.
Arts and Environment
To enhance our worship space and experience, these volunteers create and provide a pleasant church environment according to the Liturgical Calendar through the use of banners, flowers and seasonal decorations.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Before the Mass readings begin, a minster of the word take the children (ages 4-7) into the community room, to proclaim the Word in their own language related to the readings. They return to Mass after the Prayers of the Faithful.
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest with the distribution of the Eucharist during Communion. You literally nourish the community by sharing the Bread of Life and extending the Cup of Eternal Salvation. There is a training, commissioning and you need to be fourteen years and older.
Eucharistic Minister to the Homebound
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest with the distribution of the Eucharist during Communion. The Ministers of Communion also take communion to the ill and homebound members of our community. There is a training and you need to be eighteen years and older. We provide special ultra-low gluten hosts for parishioners diagnosed with celiac sprue and ultra thin hosts for ease of swallowing for the homebound and sick.
The honor and privilege of bringing up the gifts of the Eucharist is yours for the asking. You may have an anniversary, birthday or a special intention that you are celebrating. You can accomplish this by volunteering to bring up the gifts to the altar at any one of the masses. Contact an Usher at least 15 minutes before Mass or sign-up in advance on the list in the gathering space. It’s a wonderful way to fully participate in the Mass and it can be done by your entire family or with your group of friends.
These ministers of hospitality assist our parish community at Masses in several ways: by welcoming, assisting some in seating, taking up our offertory collection, monitoring the communion procession, distributing programs and bulletins, and general housekeeping after the liturgy. Ushers can be any active, registered man or woman who are 10 years of age and up. Ushers are scheduled individually and work on a rotating basis at their Mass of preference throughout the year.
The ministry of a lector is a wonderful work. Through you, God’s living word continues to be proclaimed to His people. You become the conduit through which God speaks and are in fact the communicator of God’s very self. Lectors proclaim the Word for 1st and 2nd readings during Mass. There is a training and you need to be 14 years and older.
